SUMMARY:The Law of Desire: A Necessity
DESCRIPTION:The recent publication of The Law of Desire: Rulings on Sex and Sexuality in India by Madhavi Menon\, Director of the Centre for Studies in Gender and Sexuality (CSGS) at Ashoka University has called into serious question the wisdom—indeed\, the intent—of our lawmakers and the judiciary when it comes to regulating the forms desire can take. \nTo unpack this thread\, the CSGS will be holding conversation between Madhavi Menon and Ratna Kapur\, Professor of Human Rights & Global Studies at Symbiosis Law School and Senior Faculty at Institute of Global Law and Policy\, Harvard Law School around the question — where is the obscene in desire? \nThe discussion will take us through the tensions between law and desire and the seemingly contrasting yet overlapping roles that each play in social\, cultural\, religious and political contexts. \n
