SUMMARY:Call for Abstracts for Research Conference on Philanthropy and Giving in India
DESCRIPTION:The Centre for Social Impact and Philanthropy (CSIP) at Ashoka University invites interested researchers and practitioners to submit abstracts for contribution to the ‘Research Conference on Philanthropy and Giving in India’ to be held on 28-29 April 2022. This will be an online conference.  \nCSIP is India’s first academic centre focused on enabling strategic and robust philanthropy for greater social impact. It informs sector strategy through credible research and data\, convenes platforms for norm-setting and collaborative learning\, and offers programmes that strengthen civil society capability and sustainability. CSIP undertakes a number of research studies focused on critical topics in social impact and philanthropy with emphasis on applied research.  \nThe conference will be hosted by CSIP for researchers and practitioners in the philanthropic and social impact ecosystem. We invite abstracts exploring different forms of giving. The conference will serve as an avenue to inform as well as re-shape discourses as we try to build a more resilient post-pandemic third sector. \nAbstracts for theoretical as well as empirical papers on the following sub-themes are welcome for submission to the conference.  \nThemes \n\nPhilanthropic response to COVID-19\nNew and emerging forms of giving \nCommunity based giving \n\nInstructions for Abstract Submission \nAbstracts should be submitted directly to the research team at CSIP at research@csip.ashoka.edu.in with the subject line ‘Research Conference on Philanthropy and Giving in India’. Abstracts sent for review must be in English. Please submit a brief biography and a 500 word abstract with a working title\, clear statement of the research problem\, concise methodology used\, an outline of the primary arguments and statement of conclusion/s by 13 March\, 2022 5:00 PM. The decision regarding the selection of the abstract for the conference will be communicated via email by April 1\, 2022.

SUMMARY:Biology Colloquium | Anita Devineni
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Anita Devineni \nAssistant Professor\, Department of Biology\, Emory University \n  \nTitle:   Mechanisms of sensory processing and behavioral flexibility in the fly taste system \n  \nAbstract:  A central question is how the brain interprets cues from the world\, integrates them with internal signals about an animal’s state\, and selects an appropriate behavioral response. My lab investigates this question in the taste system of the fruit fly Drosophila. I will present recent and ongoing work characterizing molecular\, cellular\, and neural mechanisms of sensory processing and modulation in the taste system. Specifically\, I will discuss: 1) mechanisms underlying a hunger-dependent switch in taste behavior\, 2) temporal dynamics in neuronal responses to taste\, and 3) integration of different kinds of taste information in the brain. \n  \n  \nAbout the Speaker: Dr. Devineni attended Stanford University for her undergraduate studies\, where she received a B.S. in Biological Sciences with honors in Neurobiology. She completed her Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of California San Francisco\, where she worked with Ulrike Heberlein to study mechanisms of addiction-like behavior in Drosophila. She then began to study chemosensory processing during her postdoctoral work at Columbia University in Richard Axel’s lab. She started as an Assistant Professor of Biology at Emory University in 2022. Her lab uses the Drosophila taste system to investigate how the brain integrates internal and external cues to generate flexible behavior.
