SUMMARY:Autism Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, April is observed as World Autism Awareness Month\, with an aim to support the creation of fulfilling lives and relationships for persons with autism. This month also acts as a marker of the work that has been done so far\, and the road that lies ahead of us in our pursuit of enabling the inclusion and acceptance of persons with autism in our university. To observe this month\, the OLS planned a series of events and activities to promote and foster feelings of warmth and acceptance among the Ashoka community\, specifically in the context of appreciating and accepting neurodiversity around us. \nAs a kickstart\, the OLS put up posters across the campus listing a few ways in which we can extend a hand of friendship to our peers who are on the autism spectrum. The idea was to encourage the Ashoka community to pause for a moment and engage with the poster to understand and implement some of the inclusive practices highlighted through it\, so as to make our neurodiverse peers feel more at home at Ashoka. \n \nOn April 12\, the OLS had invited two organizations\, Action for Autism (AFA) and Action for Ability Development and Inclusion (AADI)\, for the Spring Haat organized by the Student Life Office. Both the organizations set up their stalls\, showcased the products made by people with autism and other disabilities\, and engaged with various students\, staff\, and faculty at the stalls. Along with this\, there was an interactive activity organized to explore the common understanding of autism amongst the Ashoka community members and put down questions that might have about it. The purpose was to initiate a conversation around autism and neurodiversity on the Ashoka campus. Later\, the responses were collated\, the Ashoka community was encouraged to reflect on their connotations\, and common questions were addressed for the purpose of increasing awareness about autism. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n  \nThe OLS encourages those curious to learn more about autism or create inclusive spaces around themselves to reach out to the office\, for the month may have drawn to a close\, but the dialogue on autism must continue. \n

SUMMARY:Coffee and More…!
DESCRIPTION:In this CAM we focus on academic burnout and finding work-life balance. Students commonly call 'academic burnout' a phase in which engaging with academics becomes exceedingly tiresome and difficult. Such burnouts often follow from pursuing a hectic schedule of work and academics leading to a poor work-life balance. Yet\, our commitments stay and the world does not wait.  \nMoreover\, as exciting as this offline semester is\, it comes with its own challenges of balancing between work and life. First-timers on campus might feel the Fear Of Missing Out on socializing and making up for the lost time and friendships in an online setting. Final-year students might be torn between making the most of the last semester\, giving their last best shot at academics and planning for life after Ashoka.  In this CAM event\, therefore\, we would like to have a conversation around ways of dealing with and working through phases of tiredness and low-motivation in one’s academic schedule and of working towards a healthier work-life balance in general.  \n  \nHere are some of the queries we hope to address:  \n\nAmidst the hustle culture at Ashoka\, where we see people work more often than not\, how do we recognise that we are slipping into an unhealthy stage of work-life balance and remind ourselves to take a break? \nHow can we avoid feeling guilty about taking breaks? \nHow do we work our way through phases of burnouts?\nSometimes\, taking a break leads to other breaks\, taking us to a point where catching up on work becomes daunting. How do we motivate ourselves to get back to work then\, or manage our breaks wisely? \n\n  \n\nThrough this Coffee and More…! session\, we hope to explore these sorts of questions and potentially know helpful and interesting ways to think about finding work-life balance.
