SUMMARY:Autism Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, April is observed as World Autism Awareness Month\, with an aim to support the creation of fulfilling lives and relationships for persons with autism. This month also acts as a marker of the work that has been done so far\, and the road that lies ahead of us in our pursuit of enabling the inclusion and acceptance of persons with autism in our university. To observe this month\, the OLS planned a series of events and activities to promote and foster feelings of warmth and acceptance among the Ashoka community\, specifically in the context of appreciating and accepting neurodiversity around us. \nAs a kickstart\, the OLS put up posters across the campus listing a few ways in which we can extend a hand of friendship to our peers who are on the autism spectrum. The idea was to encourage the Ashoka community to pause for a moment and engage with the poster to understand and implement some of the inclusive practices highlighted through it\, so as to make our neurodiverse peers feel more at home at Ashoka. \n \nOn April 12\, the OLS had invited two organizations\, Action for Autism (AFA) and Action for Ability Development and Inclusion (AADI)\, for the Spring Haat organized by the Student Life Office. Both the organizations set up their stalls\, showcased the products made by people with autism and other disabilities\, and engaged with various students\, staff\, and faculty at the stalls. Along with this\, there was an interactive activity organized to explore the common understanding of autism amongst the Ashoka community members and put down questions that might have about it. The purpose was to initiate a conversation around autism and neurodiversity on the Ashoka campus. Later\, the responses were collated\, the Ashoka community was encouraged to reflect on their connotations\, and common questions were addressed for the purpose of increasing awareness about autism. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n  \nThe OLS encourages those curious to learn more about autism or create inclusive spaces around themselves to reach out to the office\, for the month may have drawn to a close\, but the dialogue on autism must continue. \n

SUMMARY:Physics Colloquium | Akshay Rana Assistant Professor\, Department of Physics\, St. Stephen’s College
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Physical laws are generally expressed as mathematical relations between different physical quantities. The validity of these relations lies in their consistency with experimental results which is achieved by introducing some fundamental constants. To retain the universality of physical laws these constants are supposed to be independent of the time and location of the experiment. The focus of the discussion would be about the constancy of some of these fundamental constants on cosmological scales. Further\, the talk will cover my recent attempts to probe a few such constants like mass of graviton and the Fermi coupling constant using most recent cosmological observations. \n

SUMMARY:Physics Department: Paper presentations for the subject breadth evaluation
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: A brief review of closed and open quantum systems is discussed\, followed by a description of the issue of non-uniqueness in Markovian open quantum system dynamics. The ideas and results of the aforementioned paper (arXiv: 2108.08316) are elucidated. These include defining a norm on the space of quantum master equations\, and constructing the unique canonical decomposition of the open quantum system dynamics. Furthermore\, a recipe for perturbatively evaluating the canonical Hamiltonian for a system weakly coupled to its environment\, is given.  \nBio: Aditya obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Physics from the University of Delhi\, with a specialization in the latter in high energy physics. Presently\, he is working with Dr. Amin Nizami on correlation functions in a 3D $N=2$ superconformal field theory. His research interests include conformal field theory\, superconformal field theory\, supersymmetry\, and the structure of general quantum field theories. He also aspires to study aspects of quantum gravity. Aditya was awarded the INSPIRE Scholarship\, and currently he's a recipient of CSIR's Junior Research Fellowship. \n
