SUMMARY:Emergent magnetic monopole in finite size artificial spin ice
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Artificial spin ice is a system of highly shape anisotropic dipolar coupled magnetic nanostrutcures\narranged in a special geometry leading to geometric frustration in the system. Due to the strong\nshape anisotropy\, these nanostructures are considered as behaving like a macrospins. The dipolar\ninteraction among the nanomagnets (macrospins) leads to a certain arrangement of macrospins\nwhich mimic the behavior of position of protons in water ice. An excitation from ground state in\nthese systems leads to magnetically charged states which behave like Dirac monopoles. Such\nmonopoles are found to appear in pairs of oppositely charged vertices and are randomly created in\nthe network of the nanostructures providing an opportunity to study behavior of magnetic\nmonopoles in solid state systems. In this talk\, I will discuss these properties of such magnetically\ncharged vertices and will show that such vertices can be predictively created in finite size ASI\nsystems.
