SUMMARY:Iwasawa Theory and Arithmetic Statistics
DESCRIPTION:Abstract:  \nIn this talk I will give a brief overview of my current research on questions that lie in the intersection of Iwasawa theory and arithmetic statistics. \nThe first part of this talk will be expository in nature\, where I will give an introduction to Iwasawa theory and explain the main questions that drive a lot of the research in this area. In the second part of the talk\, I will discuss some of the progress made towards questions on the average behaviour of Iwasawa invariants – both the classical Iwasawa invariants and Iwasawa invariants of Selmer groups of elliptic curves. \nAbout the Speaker: \nDr Debanjana Kundu graduated with a dual BS-MS degree in mathematics from IISER Mohali in 2015\, where she completed her masters thesis under the guidance of Prof. IBS Passi. She obtained here Ph.D from the University of Toronto under the supervision of Prof. Kumar Murty in June 2020. Subsequently\, she was a postdoctoral fellow at CRM Montreal and held a PIMS Postdoctoral Fellowship at UBC\, Vancouver where her mentor was Prof. R. Sujatha. Since January 2023\, she has been affiliated with the Fields Institute in Toronto.

SUMMARY:EVS Colloquium |Dr. Vinod Kumar Saranathan | 4 April 2023 | 6:30 pm (IST)
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Environmental Studies at Ashoka University invites you to EVS Colloquium on "Biomimetics of living and dead color-producing systems for sustainable manufacture" by Dr. Vinod Kumar Saranathan\, Krea University to be held on Tuesday\, 4th April  2023\, 6:30 PM (IST). \nZoom meeting link: Click here to join or https://zoom.us/j/91258396260?pwd=TjFFdkVVK1A0RmVYQmIwZzBmQVJadz09 \n  \nBio:  \nDr. Vinod Saranathan is Associate Professor and Discipline Coordinator for Biological Sciences at the Division of Science\, within the School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences (SIAS) at Krea University\, an elite 4-year liberal arts university in Andhra Pradesh\, where he studies the physical and biological basis of structural color-producing biophotonic nanostructures in birds and insects\, towards their biomimetic synthesis for technological applications. He has published in leading international scientific journals including PNAS\, Advanced Materials\, Nano Letters\, Cell Reports\, Proceedings of the Royal Society B and his research has been featured in prominent international and national print (Quanta Magazine\, New York Times\, LA Times\, Atlantic Monthly\, Hindu Business Line\, Times of India\, etc.) and broadcast news media (BBC\, CBC\, NPR\, Channel News Asia\, etc.). Vinod received a bachelor’s degree in Physics with a minor in Philosophy cum laude from Ohio Wesleyan University. Funded by a Dillon and Mary Ripley Graduate Fellowship\, he earned a Master’s in 2007 and a PhD in 2011 from Yale University\, in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology\, where he studied structural color production in birds. Subsequently\, Vinod was a Royal Society Newton Fellow at the Edward Grey Institute of Field Ornithology\, Department of Zoology\, University of Oxford. While at Oxford\, he was also elected to an Edward P. Abraham Cephalosporin Junior Research Fellowship at Linacre College. Prior to joining Krea University\, Vinod was faculty at Yale-NUS College\, and the Department of Biological Sciences at NUS\, Singapore\, and an adjunct PI at the NUS Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Initiative (NUSNNI). \n  \n
