SUMMARY:Dyslexia Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:Dyslexia Awareness Month \n  \nOctober is celebrated as “Dyslexia Awareness Month''. To mark this month\, every year\, the Office of Learning Support (OLS) organized events to raise awareness and spark conversations about dyslexia\, learning\, and neurodiversity within the Ashoka campus. This year\, OLS joined forces with various student clubs and societies to amplify their endeavors\, engaging students\, staff\, and faculty through creative and enjoyable activities. Throughout the month\, OLS carefully planned a series of events designed to involve the entire Ashoka community in various ways\, with the goal of sharing essential facts about dyslexia and nurturing a culture of acceptance for neurodiversity. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Talk on A Walk in the Privacy Zoo: Unpacking CS and Legal Perspectives[CDAIS]
DESCRIPTION:In this presentation\, we’ll embark on an exploratory journey through the multifaceted realm of privacy within computer science. We’ll delve into key paradigms such as anonymisation\, inferential and differential privacy\, zero-knowledge proofs\, and secure multiparty computation. Along the way\, we’ll uncover some intriguing impossibility results that challenge conventional notions of privacy. In parallel\, we’ll bridge these computer science perspectives to legal definitions of privacy\, touching on critical concepts like consent\, regulatory control\, purpose limitation\, and privacy-by-design. This dual approach aims to highlight pivotal questions and opportunities for interdisciplinary discourse\, beckoning attention from scholars in both computer science and legal studies. \nHere is a link to watch the recorded video of the event.

SUMMARY:Cube sum problem
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \nThe classical Diophantine problem of determining which integers can be expressed as a sum of two rational cubes has a long history; it includes works of Sylvester\, Selmer\, Satgé\, Leiman and the recent work of Alpöge-Bhargava-Shnidman-Burungale-Skinner. In this talk\, we will use Selmer groups of elliptic curves and integral binary cubic forms to study some cases of the rational cube sum problem. This talk is based on joint works with D. Majumdar\, P. Shingavekar and B. Sury. \nAbout the Speaker: \nSomnath Jha joined the PhD program in mathematics at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research\, Mumbai. After earning a doctorate from TIFR in 2012\, he worked briefly at the University of Heidelberg and Osaka University \nPrior to joining IIT Kanpur\, Somnath Jha was faculty member at JNU\, Delhi & IIT Goa. \nhttps://sites.google.com/view/jhasom
