SUMMARY:Molecular Mechanisms in Evolution | SMBE Regional Meeting in India\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:The evolution and divergence of molecules is closely linked with the evolution of populations. A holistic understanding of any biological process requires probing at both the mechanistic (molecular) and the evolutionary level. Traditionally\, the two were seen as very different disciplines\, and the subsequent lack of intermingling diminished scientific understanding. While the divide has lessened in the west\, in India there are still very few researchers who combine expertise in molecular biology with evolutionary ideas and concepts in their work\, but their number is rapidly increasing. In this SMBE regional meeting\, we bring together young scientists from India who explore both molecular and evolutionary biology. The expert talks will be accompanied by poster sessions and/or talks by students. We hope to start building and connecting  a research community linking evolution with molecular biology in India through this meeting. \nDates: 16th and 17th of December 2023 \nVenue: Shaheenbagh\, Dehradun \nProgram:  \n15th of December  \n8 pm to 9 pm: Special interaction session with Sudhir Kumar\, Temple University \n\n16th of December  \n9.00 am to 10.00 am: Plenary talk by Jordi Van Gestel\, EMBL\, Heidelberg \n10 am to 10.45 am: Nishad Matange\, IISER\, Pune \n10.45 am to 11.30 am: Deepa Agashe\, NCBS\, Bangalore \n11.30 am to 12 pm: tea break \n12 pm to 12.45 pm: Vijay Jayaraman\, IISER Thiruvananthpuram \n12.45 pm to 1.00 pm: Aparna Lajami \n1.00 pm to 1.15 pm: Samir Giri \n1.30 pm to 4.30 pm: Lunch + Posters \n4.30 pm to 5.15 pm: Riddhiman Dhar\, IIT\,  Kharagpur \n5.30 pm to 6.30 pm: Virtual poster session \n7.00 pm to 8.00 pm: Cultural program  \n8.00 pm onwards: Dinner  \n\n17th of December  \n9.00 am to 10 am: Plenary talk by Helen Alexander\, University of Edinburgh \n10 am to 10.45 am: Jahnavi Joshi\, CCMB\, Hyderabad \n10.45 am to 11.30 am: Laasya Samhita\, Ashoka University \n11.30 am to 12 pm: tea break \n12.00 pm to 12.45 pm: Sabari Sankar Thirupathy\, IISER Thiruvananthpuram \n12.45 pm to 1.00 pm: Subu Subramanian \n1.00 pm to 1.15  pm: Shazia Parveen \n1.15 pm to 3.30 pm: Lunch + Posters \n3.45 pm to 4.30 pm: Dragan Stajic\, University of Bern \n4.30 pm to 5.15 pm: Krishna Swamy\, Ahmedabad University \n5.15 pm to 6 pm: Imroze Khan\, Ashoka University\, Sonepat \n6 pm to 6.45 pm: Samay Pande\, IISc\, Bangalore \n7 pm onwards: Conference dinner \n\nRegistration information:  \nRegistration deadline: 31st of August\, 2023 \nWe welcome students\, postdocs and research fellows interested in attending!
