SUMMARY:Conclave 2.0: Building Foundations for Inclusive Higher Education
DESCRIPTION:In August 2023\, a group of universities\, organizations and NGOs keen on deliberating on the challenges of inclusive higher education for students with disabilities in India met at Ashoka University at a conclave organized by the Office of Learning Support (OLS). The group deliberated on ‘The Future of Disability Inclusion in Higher Education’ and identified key gap areas that need work. A year forward\, OLS is ready to host “Conclave 2.0: Building Foundations for Inclusive Higher Education” to continue the conversation we started last year. \nConclave 2.0 aims to take forward the ideas enlisted in the White Paper released from the deliberations of our previous meeting and expand its reach to a wider range of higher education institutes (HEIs) to join the conversation. \nThe Themes to be Explored at Conclave 2.0 \n\nAddressing policy gaps in Inclusive Higher Education\nBuilding support structures and reasonable accommodation frameworks at HEIs\nStrengthening accessible library systems and educational content accessibility\nFacilitating access to assistive technology for students in higher education- availability and training access\nMaking faculty agents of inclusive teaching in classrooms\n\nFostering the power of peer learning\, this conclave will have partners lead sessions on areas they specialize in\, sharing their best practices and facilitating discussions culminating into micro road maps and action plans for the different themes identified.

She will also highlight her experiences in the process of making the Haryana Green Manifesto 2024 – a first of its kind of grassroot democratic exercise that has taken place before the assembly elections in October this year wherein inputs of diverse experts and rural and urban stakeholders have been taken from 17 out of 22 districts covering 77% of the state to create a green vision for Haryana. \nBio of Speaker: Promoting nature conservation and social justice has been Ms. Neelam Ahluwalia’s passion and area of work for the past 3 decades. A post graduate in Environment Assessment and Evaluation from the London School of Economics (2002) in England and Mass Communication from the Xavier’s Institute of Communication in Mumbai (1995)\, she started her professional journey as a television journalist reporting for an environment series called ‘Living On The Edge’ wherein she covered many urban and rural issues ranging from pollution to deforestation\, tribal rights\, wildlife issues etc across India. From early 2012\, Ms Ahluwalia began working as a Consultant & Documentary Film Maker in the non-profit sector focussing on climate change adaptation\, capacity building of rural community radio reporters\, natural resource management etc. Over the last few years\, in her voluntary capacity\, she has been working for the conservation of natural ecosystems in the Aravallis and across India.
