SUMMARY:VISUAL ARTS COLLOQUIUM SERIES AY 24-25
DESCRIPTION:Dear All\, \nThe DEPARTMENT OF VISUAL ARTS cordially invites you to the second colloquium in VISUAL ARTS COLLOQUIUM SERIES '24-25 \nDate- October 23\, 2024 (Wednesday) \nTime: 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM \nVenue: AC04-309 \nTitle of the Talk: “PRACTICE\, PATIENCE AND SERENDIPITY IN STREET PHOTOGRAPHY” by Vineet Vohra \nAbstract: In this engaging talk\, renowned street photographer Vineet Vohra will share the process of his practice\, exploring the intricate interplay between the spontaneity of street photography and the art of storytelling. Vohra will share his experience into how our perception shapes what we see\, revealing the hidden narratives within everyday moments captured on the streets. By examining the principles of classical theories\, he will illustrate how visual elements come together to create a cohesive story\, emphasising the importance of context and composition in photography. Through personal anecdotes and striking imagery\, Vohra invites the audience to embrace serendipity\, encouraging them to find beauty and meaning in the unexpected encounters of urban life. Join us for an inspiring discussion that not only enhances our appreciation of street photography but also deepens our understanding of the stories that unfold around us every day. \nBio of Speaker: Vineet Vohra graduated from College of Art\, Delhi\, Delhi University in graphic design and advertising. He started his practice in street photography in 2001 and since then his works have been published in many publications including prominent ones like National Geographic\, UNESCO  journals and The Guardian. In 2011 he founded a photography magazine called APF. Having displayed his pictures in all major street photography festivals including the Miami Street Photography Festival\, The Indian Photography Festival\, in 2015 Vineet Vohra became the first Indian to become a Leica ambassador. Currently he is Leica Camera and Vivo ambassador for photography. \nWe look forward to your active participation. \nWarm Regards\, \nVisual Arts Department

SUMMARY:Neurodiversity 101 Workshop
DESCRIPTION:As we navigate our unique experiences\, interests\, and challenges—academically or otherwise—have you ever wondered what makes your mind tick? This workshop invites you to explore the concept of neurodiversity\, embrace the diverse ways our brains work\, and discover how this understanding can transform relationships\, learning\, and personal growth. \nWe are excited to invite you to Neurodiversity 101: Understanding the Spectrum. Join us in this workshop to learn and celebrate how every mind is wired and inspired differently and how our learning experiences unite us. Be part of a movement that celebrates the richness of human thought! Through shared understanding and empathy\, let's build a more inclusive community that values every mind. \nAbout the Speaker: \nDr. Amit Sen is a child and adolescent psychiatrist with over 30 years of experience in the field. He is a co-founder and Director at Children First. His main areas of interest include service development\, community outreach\, awareness building\, and advocacy. He is a TEDx speaker and trainer\, and has been invited as faculty by various reputable teaching institutions. Additionally\, he has worked with the UN Human Rights Commission and UNICEF.

SUMMARY:Cognitive Science Seminar Series
DESCRIPTION:Zoom Link:  https://zoom.us/j/91798081123?pwd=bj3bQgyovhanXQDuHfBXbNvKdt6Sdu.1 \nAbstract: Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is a commonly inherited form of autism and intellectual disability. One key feature of the symptoms of FXS is abnormal emotional behavior\, and clinical evidence points to the amygdala’s contribution to these affective symptoms. However\, earlier mechanistic analyses using animal models of FXS focused almost exclusively on the hippocampus and neocortex\, brain areas involved in cognitive function. There is growing evidence for brain region-specific\, even cell-type-specific\, changes induced FXS. This also poses a significant therapeutic challenge because a pharmacological strategy that is effective in one brain area like the hippocampus\, may need to be modified for another area like the amygdala. Recent failures of FXS clinical trials may be indicative of some of these issues related to circuit-specific differences. Thus\, an essential step toward overcoming these challenges requires us to focus on specific behavioral symptoms of FXS and then probe the underlying functional changes at the synaptic and molecular levels within specific circuits underlying those particular behavioral deficits. In my talk\, I will describe a strategy that leveraged the advantages offered by Pavlovian fear conditioning\, a well-established model of fear learning for which the underlying neural circuitry has been characterized extensively. This enabled us to systematically probe if perturbations caused by FXS at one level of neural organization are consistent with predicted alterations at another. Findings gathered from such an approach offer a new framework\, spanning biological scales\, for understanding and modulating activity in a well-defined fear circuit and thereby suggesting novel strategies for treating affective symptoms associated with FXS. \nAbout the Speaker: \nProf. Sumantra Chattarji \n(Director\, CHINTA\, TCG CREST\, Kolkata) \nSumantra “Shona” Chattarji \n \n
