SUMMARY:Economics Department | PhD Presentation of Synopsis | Dhrubajyoti Chakraborty |
DESCRIPTION:Dear All\,   \n\nThe Department of Economics invites you to the Ph.D. Presentation of Synopsis by  Dhrubajyoti Chakraborty  on " Essays on Choice and Games" \n\nDate: 21st July 2025\, Monday\nTime: 3:30 pm\nVenue: AC 04 301 \nTitle:  "Essays on Choice and Games"  \nAbstract: We study large population Tullock contests where individual efforts are partly productive and the prize equals aggregate output—a strictly increasing and strictly concave function of aggregate effort. This endogenous prize structure introduces a positive externality through productive contributions that counteracts the standard negative externality in rent-seeking contests\, altering equilibrium properties. We establish that aggregate payoff is strictly concave in the contest's impact elasticity parameter\, prove existence and uniqueness of an optimal impact elasticity that maximizes aggregate payoff while minimizing social waste\, and characterize the resulting inequality at both the Nash equilibrium and the Efficient state. Our analysis demonstrates how endogenizing prizes through productive efforts transforms both the efficiency properties of contests and the optimal design problem. \nThanks & Regards\, \nSapna / Manish
