SUMMARY:Beyond \"Solutions\": Rethinking Nature-Based Solutions
DESCRIPTION:This panel takes as its starting point emerging critiques of "Nature-based Solutions" (NbS)\, which challenge the dominant framing of NbS as a technocratic fix; one that positions local communities as external to nature rather than as part of it. Drawing on pathways centred on community stewardship and place-based knowledge systems\, the panel reframes conservation as a relational\, kinship-based duty\, attentive to historical\, political\, and cultural dimensions rather than reduced to a purely technical intervention. Building on examples of community-led conservation systems\, it explores what changes when we move from "solving" nature's problems to recognising people as integral to ecosystems\, and what this shift means for policy and practice. \nThe session is organised as part of the FITNESS project supported by the EU BIODIVERSA+ fund\, and in collaboration between Ashoka University and the Chr. Michelsen Institute\, Norway.

SUMMARY:Psychology and Cognitive Sciences Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: How does the human brain transform sound into perception\, action\, and internal thought\, and how are these neural representations reshaped by experience? In this talk\, I will present my research at the intersection of auditory/cognitive neuroscience\, and computational NeuroAI. Using electrophysiology\, behavioural experiments\, and computational modelling\, my work investigates how the brain represents complex auditory information across listening\, speech production\, musical behaviour\, and internally generated experiences such as imagined speech and music. I will discuss studies examining the neural encoding of spectrotemporal features\, auditory–motor interactions\, and experience-dependent plasticity\, together with emerging approaches for decoding cognitive states from EEG. Building on this work\, I will outline a research programme aimed at understanding how distributed brain networks adapt during different modalities of speech\, and how multimodal neural and behavioural signals can be combined with AI to predict individual trajectories of cognitive change. Ultimately\, this work seeks to connect fundamental mechanisms of human cognition with translational applications in brain–computer interfaces\, communication\, and neurorehabilitation. \nAbout the Speaker: Dr. Rupesh Kumar Chillale is an Assistant Professor at Ahmedabad University\, with joint appointments in Psychology and Biological & Life Sciences. He is a computational and cognitive neuroscientist whose research focuses on auditory cognition\, speech and music perception\, and brain–computer interfaces. His work combines human and animal electrophysiology\, EEG\, computational modelling\, signal processing\, and machine learning to understand how the brain represents sound\, speech\, music\, action\, and internally generated experiences such as imagined Speech. He received his PhD in Computational Neuroscience from Jawaharlal Nehru University and subsequently conducted postdoctoral and research work at École Normale Supérieure in Paris and the University of Maryland. His current research aims to integrate neuroscience and AI to understand individual differences in learning and brain plasticity and to develop translational approaches for communication and neurorehabilitation. \nWe look forward to your active participation.
