Abstract:  In this talk, she will present a provisional definition of what constitutes discrimination, specifically caste discrimination. Second, she will go over ways that are used or have been used to collect data on caste discrimination. Third, she will draw on existing research to propose an alternate way of thinking and measuring discrimination. This will be followed by some novel data from Gujarat which she uses to operationalize her proposed measure of discrimination. She will conclude with a discussion of both the strengths and weaknesses of the data and measure.
