Ashoka History Book Discussion Series

The Department of History, Ashoka University, is delighted to present the Ashoka History Book Discussion Series. This series is meant as a platform to showcase the latest research of the History Faculty and host intellectual conversations around their most recent books.
We will begin our journey this week with a discussion on Prof. Rudrangshu Mukherjee‘s latest book Oxford India Short Introductions: Jawaharlal Nehru(New Delhi: Oxford University Press, 2019). The book will be discussed by the eminent historian Prof. Madhavan K Palat (Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund). The panel will be chaired by Prof. Mahesh Rangarajan (Ashoka University).
About the Panelists:
Rudrangshu Mukherjee is Chancellor of Ashoka University and Professor in the Department of History. He was the founding Vice Chancellor of Ashoka University from 2014-2017. His first book, Awadh in Revolt, 1857-58, was published by Oxford University Press in 1984. His recent works include Nehru and Bose: Parallel Lives (2014), Twilight falls on Liberalism (2018). He has also edited five volumes of the works of Dr. Manmohan Singh – Changing India (OUP, 2018).
Madhavan K Palat is an eminent historian who taught at Jawaharlal Nehru University for many years. Since 2011, he has been at the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund. He is the editor of the Selected Works of Jawaharlal Nehru, a project that will be complete in 2020.
Mahesh Rangarajan is Professor of History and Environment Studies at Ashoka University. He is currently the Head of the Department of History.
