DRAVIDIANISM, NATIONALISM, FEDERALISM: A Critical Assessment of 100 years of Dravidian Movement
Jointly hosted by Ambedkar University, Delhi, Ashoka University, Delhi, and Trivedi Centre for Political Data.
The popular political party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), literally Dravidian Progressive Association, founded in 1949 and lead by C.N. Annadurai, announced, in 1964, that state autonomy is its political goal within Federal India and came to power in 1967. Since then its either the DMK or its offshoot AIADMK have been in power and no national party has been able to make a dent on their stronghold. This inter-disciplinary conference has leading scholars from various fields to discuss the phenomenon of Dravidianism and its various facets and its implication for the nature of State and democratic federalism in India.
