Professor M. V. Rajeev Gowda was an Indian Member of Parliament from 2014-20 He represented Karnataka state and the Indian National Congress party in the upper house, the Rajya Sabha. He is Chairman of the Congress party’s Research Department, was Convener of its Manifesto Committee for the 2019 election, and is also a National Spokesperson.

Earlier he was Professor of Economics and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore where he also served as Chairperson, Centre for Public Policy. He has been a Director on the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India and a Carnegie Council Global Ethics Fellow. His most recent co-edited book is India’s Risks, Oxford University Press India 2014.

Ashoka University launched a free webinar series – Beyond the Classroom (BTC) last month and completed Semester 1 with 12 seminars. Conference: Reflections on Writing

Centre for Writing and Communication invites you to Reflections on Writing, a 2-day national conference being organised at Ashoka.

The conference explores the idea of the work of writing done in university spaces keeping in mind that new concerns, new media and new claims have transformed the questions of what, why and how we write. There are 8 panels spread over 2 days where scholars and professionals from a range of disciplines (scientists, writers, architects, dancers) discuss their work.

Literature as Sin: A talk by Saikat Majumdar

LitAsSin2Saikat Majumdar is Professor of English and Creative Writing at Ashoka. He is the author, most recently, of the novel The Firebird, released this month in the US under the title Play House, and currently being developed into a screenplay. He has also published a monograph, Prose of the World, and an earlier novel, Silverfish. For the academic year 2017-18, he will be a Fellow at the Newhouse Center for the Humanities at Wellesley College.
