What’s the difference between a data analyst, a data scientist, and a data expert? A data analyst will tell you what happened, a data scientist will explain why, and a data expert, well, they’ll just tell you the probability of someone asking that question! Welcome to our insightful, future-forward foundational course in data science in which you will play all these roles to tell stories with data. Designed for high schoolers (Grades 9-12), this course will teach you how to collect, analyse, visualise and draw predictions to transform raw data into intelligence. Craft compelling stories from the vast tapestry of data science, as you learn about the importance of data in various contexts and engage in real-world projects using open data sets. Who is this course for?

This course is for high school students (Grades 9-12) seeking to master data science fundamentals to make informed data-driven decisions. It is also ideal for high schoolers considering pursuing data science for their higher education.

Prerequisites: High proficiency in written & spoken English. You will be required to submit your latest mark sheet in the application form. While the course is open for all students some knowledge of programming languages would be beneficial.

Grading, Assessments & Certification

All Ashoka Horizons courses offer a certificate on satisfactory completion of the course. The 3 components of student assessment are-

  • Weekly Projects 1,2,3 – 30%
  • In-class participation and attendance – 30%
  • Final Personal Project & Presentation (week 4) – 40%

Class participation will be assessed based on your active engagement in live sessions, contributions to discussion forums, and involvement in Teaching Fellow-led activities. Letters of Appreciation will be issued for select students based on exceptional performance in the course.

IT Requirements

This course is administered through an online platform. Students are expected to have a foundational understanding of computer usage, including but not limited to sending emails and conducting Internet searches. Consistent access to the Internet and a computer that aligns with the recommended minimum specifications are also requisite for participation in the course.
