While admission to Ashoka University is based on academics, extra-curricular activities and other holistic principles, financial aid is assessed entirely on the basis of the financial standing of the student’s family. 

 

Ashoka University believes that the primary responsibility to bear the cost of the educational expenses of the student belongs with the family before the university grants financial aid. We expect that the family will consider various financial resources available to them, including current income, savings, investments, and education loans if required, to finance the expected educational cost. Our endeavour is to provide necessary financial support which can help you bridge the gap between the cost of the programme and your ability to pay. 

A financial aid commitment of INR 186 crores raised through collective philanthropically has helped over 2950 students achieve their dreams by availing financial aid from the institution.

Undergraduate Programme

Since the beginning of the Undergraduate Programme in 2014, Ashoka University’s generous Financial Aid policy has helped support approximately 48% of our students who have received some form of financial grants.

  • Admissions Fee of INR 50,000 at the time of acceptance of the offer of admission
  • Refundable Security Deposit of INR 75,000 (Security Deposit of INR 50,000 and Meal Cost Deposit of INR 25,000) at the time of acceptance of an offer of admission. The Security Deposit will be refunded at the time of graduation from Ashoka University or at the time of withdrawal of admission from the programme.

MA Economics Programme

Since the beginning of the MA Economics Programme in 2017, Ashoka University’s generous Financial Aid policy has helped support approximately 58% of our students who have received some form of financial grants.

 

Of these students, 50% have received partial tuition waivers while 50% have received a minimum of 100% Tuition waiver or more (Hostel/Meals).

  • Ashoka University provides Residence and Meal facilities on Campus, on an optional basis. If you opt for On-Campus Residence & Meal Facilities, the annual Residence Cost is INR 1,55,000 and the annual minimum Meal Cost is INR 35,000.
  • A Refundable Meal Cost Security Deposit of INR 25,000 is charged at the time of payment of Semester 1 fee. Meal consumption over INR 35,000 will be charged on actuals 

One time Payments

  • The Refundable security deposit of INR 20,000 at the time of the offer of admissions. The security deposit will be refunded at the time of graduation  from Ashoka University or at the time of withdrawal of admission from the programme
  • The Meal Cost Security Deposit will be refunded at the time of graduation from Ashoka University or at the time of withdrawal of admission from the programme.

MA English Programme

 

As we launch the new MA English programme, Ashoka University’s Financial Aid policy seeks to help students pursue this programme through financial grants toward their Tuition Fee and Residence and Meal Costs based on the financial need of the student. The Financial Aid granted could range from a 25% waiver on the Tuition Fee up to a 100% waiver on the Tuition Fee, Residence and Meals Costs.

Application Process

 

 

STEP 1 : FINANCIAL AID FORM OPENS

 

The Financial Aid Form will be enabled only for those candidates who have been made a Firm Offer of Admission to Ashoka University. Candidates are recommended to take help from parents/ guardians while filling the financial aid form. Candidates will have 7 days after they receive a Firm Offer of Admission to complete the Financial Aid Form. All relevant details and instructions will be emailed to the successful candidates.

 

STEP 2 : COMPLETE THE FINANCIAL AID FORM & UPLOAD THE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS

 

Instructions for Completing the Financial Aid Application Form

1. Take the help of a parent/guardian while completing the Financial Aid Application Form.

2. Add the email address 'financialaid@ashoka.edu.in' to your inbox address book so that the mails you receive from this ID does not go into spam.

3. Answer the questions clearly and honestly. Applications containing discrepancies, misleading information and lacking essential documents will be rejected without any further queries.

4. Before you begin, please scan and save the documents as JPG/PDF files of sizes under 2MB. The resolution of the files should be a minimum of 200 DPI, which is readable. Alternatively, you can also attach a zip folder of a zip file not larger than 2 mb containing all the documents.

5. Fill all mandatory fields with the correct information and upload the supporting documents. Do not use any special characters (for e.g. {- * , . / etc}) while completing the Financial Aid Application Form. Include additional supporting information in the comment box.

6. Do not attach password protected copies of attachments.

7. Re-read the form to ensure than the information submitted is correct. The Financial Aid decision is based solely on information submitted in the Financial Aid Application Form and no subsequent requests for modifying the information will be entertained.

8. Click the SUBMIT Button. Financial Aid Application Forms not submitted will not be processed for Financial Aid.

9. Haryana Resident students are eligible for a full or partial fee concession as per the Haryana Private Universities Act 2006. However, this concession is subject to the submission of Haryana Residence Certificate.

 

Procure the following documents in advance and keep them ready to upload/attach on the Portal. These documents need to be converted into PDF files of sizes under 2MB. The resolution of the PDF should be 200 DPI, which is readable. Alternatively, the candidates can also attach a zip folder of a zip file not larger than 2 mb containing all the documents.

 

a)      Income Tax Returns for the Financial Year 2016-17, 2017-18 & 2018-19 for your parents/earning members of the family

b)      Salary statements for the last 3 months of all earning members

c)      Bank Account Statements for the last 12 months of all earning members of the family

d)      Details of the family’s Financial Assets (movable and immovable property, investments, etc)

e)      For Businesses/Professionals : Income Tax Returns, Bank Statements, Financial Statements (Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet for the last three Financial Years)

f)       For Businesses/Professionals : Form 26AS

g)      Loan Statements (mandatory is loan amount is mentioned)

h)     *Haryana Domicile Certificate (mandatory for availing Haryana Resident benefits)

 

Remember that the Financial Aid Committee will only consider the documents uploaded online. If the document has not been uploaded online, it will not be considered in the final assessment. Hard copies of the documents or copies of documents on email threads will not be accepted.

 

Before submitting the Financial Aid Form, please ensure that all the information is correct. Once submitted, no additional information or documents will be accepted either by phone, email or in hard copy.

 

STEP 3 : SUBMIT THE FINANCIAL AID FORM

 

Remember to SUBMIT the Financial Aid Form within the deadline. The submission deadline is binding and will NOT be extended. Forms not submitted will not be considered for Financial Aid.

 

STEP 4 : FINANCIAL AID ASSESSMENT & DECISION NOTIFICATION

 

The Office of Financial Aid will verify and assess the information provided by the candidate. Please note that your parents/guardians may be contacted during this verification process. The Financial Aid Committee reviews each candidate's application and makes a decision. The Committee expects the candidate to provide detailed comments and documents supporting their request for aid. The Committee will not follow up for missing documents.

 

All decisions are final.

 

*Haryana domicile students are eligible for a full or partial fee concession as per the Haryana Private Universities Act (2006). However, this is subject to the submission of their Government issued Haryana Resident Certificate (Domicile). Please note that Ashoka University reserves the right to determine the percentage of fee concession.

FAQs

  

What is Ashoka University’s philosophy in awarding financial aid? 

Ashoka University believes that the primary responsibility to bear the cost of the educational expenses of the student belongs with the family before the university grants financial aid. We expect that the family will consider various financial resources available to them, including current income, savings, investments, and education loans if required, to finance the expected educational cost. The financial aid grant provided by the university aims to bridge the gap between the cost of the programme and your ability to pay.

 

How is the financial aid assessed?

The financial aid given by Ashoka University is assessed solely on the basis of your family’s financial standing. It is not based on scholastic merit, sports qualifications, parent's occupation or any non-financial factors.

 

How much financial aid can I receive?
If you are eligible, you can receive anywhere from a 25% waiver on tuition to a full waiver on the total fee.

 

What if my parent/guardian is not required to file an ITR?

As per Income Tax Act of 1961, you are only exempt from filing an ITR if your total income is below INR 2,50,000. If you fall in this category, you will need to provide:

 

- an affidavit on a stamp paper, stating the gross annual income and the source(s) of income (if the earning member is self-employed)

- salary slips for the last six months/salary certificate from the employer (if the earning member is salaried)

 

My parent/guardian has two or more bank accounts. Will I be required to upload statements for all bank accounts?

Yes, you will be required to upload the statements of all bank account by converting them into PDF files of sizes under 2mb. Ensure that the resolution of the PDF is 200dpi. Alternatively, you can also attach a zip folder containing all the statements.

 

Do you offer financial aid for international students? 

Yes, we do offer financial aid for international students. However, if the international student is admitted to the university on partial or no financial aid, he/she is expected to manage their expenses, like travel (both local & international), medical etc. during their time at Ashoka University. 

 

If I am applying to Ashoka University as a transfer student for the Spring 2020 semester, when can I apply for Financial Aid?

If you are planning to apply for a transfer to Ashoka University for the Spring 2020 semester, your financial aid form will be open from 27th - 31st December 2019. We strongly urge you to download the sample Financial Aid Form and obtain the necessary information and mandatory documents well in advance. You will find the list of documents in the Application Process section above.

 

I am an International Student and we do not file Income Tax Returns in my country. What am I required to submit?

If you are an international student, you will be required to present any/all document(s) that you file with the government of your country that establishes the gross income and tax paid by individuals in your family or by the business owned and run by your family.

 

Can I submit the financial documents through email/post/in person?

No, you can only submit the financial documents through the financial aid form (refer to the Financial Aid Application Process)

 

Will I have to apply for financial aid for each year of my Undergraduate Programme?

The percentage of financial aid granted to you is applicable for the entire duration of your undergraduate programme at Ashoka University.

 

Is my financial aid applicable for the fourth year of my Undergraduate Programme?

Your financial aid will apply to the fourth year as well provided you apply and register for the diploma programme offered by the university, called the Ashoka Scholars Programme. 

 

I am not satisfied with the level of my aid grant. Can I apply for more aid in subsequent years of my programme? 

As the percentage of financial aid granted to you is fixed at the time of joining Ashoka University, it will not be reviewed at any point in the course of the programme. The University expects the family to have sufficiently planned their finances to cover the entire length of the programme. However, in case of extreme unforeseen circumstances which greatly affect the family’s original financial planning (eg. Loss of job or loss of life of an earning member/s, or any similar circumstance), you will be allowed to apply for a revision of your current financial aid grant for the subsequent academic years by completing the Exceptional Circumstances Form. This review will only be considered if you contact the Office of Financial Aid between 1 - 30 April, before the start of the next academic year. Any revisions of aid will only be applicable for the next academic year.

 

If you are planning to apply for the Ashoka Scholar's Programme, and there has been a significant change in the family's financial situation which warrants a revision of aid, you must contact the Office of Financial Aid no later than 30th June before the start of the next academic year. Please note that any requests received after 30th June will not be considered.

Does my financial aid include the summer semester at Ashoka University?

Yes, the level of financial aid granted to you will be applicable to the summer semester at Ashoka University. For more information, please write to summer@ashoka.edu.in

 

Does my financial aid include study abroad or semester abroad programmes?

No, your financial aid package does not include the study abroad or semester abroad programmes. If you wish to apply for financial aid for any of these programmes, you are required to contact the Office of International Programme at studyabroad@ashoka.edu.in

 

Is there a different fee structure for Haryana Residents?

Haryana Resident students are eligible for a full or partial fee concession as per the Haryana Private Universities Act. However, this fee concession is subject to the submission of Haryana Residence Certificate. Please note that this benefit only valid at the time of admission. Ashoka University reserves the right to determine the percentage of fee concession. This fee concession is only valid for the three years of the Undergraduate Programme. It will not apply for the 4th year of Ashoka Scholars Programme.
