Abhay Gopal Bhatt works on probability and stochastic statistics. He is a Professor at the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi, where he has served for almost three decades. His research interests are in the area of Markov Processes and Martingale Problems. Among other things, he has worked on problems in stochastic filtering theory and stochastic differential equations in infinite dimensions.
After completing his Ph.D. from the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi, Abhay Bhatt was a visitor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and at Michigan State University. Subsequently, he also visited the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
In recent years, he has analyzed data for government and private bodies. He was part of a committee that submitted a report to the Election Commission of India on statistical testing of the Electronic Voting Machines-VVPAT systems used in Indian elections. He is currently advising several entities on statistical methods for the normalization of marks in multi-session examinations.
