What is VSP?

VSP is the Visiting Student Programme to welcome international students to spend a summer/semester and a full academic year at Ashoka. The programme is open to students from partner and non-partner global institutions. It is specifically designed to foster the exchange of ideas between the undergraduate students of international institutions and those at Ashoka.

Eligibility

In order to apply for study abroad at Ashoka, a student must fulfill following criteria:

  • Must be enrolled as full-time student at a partner institution of Ashoka University or any other institution abroad. 
  • The home university must accept Ashoka course transfer credits towards student degree
  • Completed a minimum of 1 year of university level study (by the time s/he start at Ashoka)
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale; or its equivalent

How to apply?

  • To apply for VSP at Ashoka, students will need to first register on the online application system and then complete the online application form.
  • For Nominated /exchange students, the home institution must send a list of nominated students to the Office of International programmes at Ashoka via studyabroad@ashoka.edu.in. For a list of Ashoka Partner institutions Click here
  • A prospective visiting student could then apply online for the Exchange programme after s/he received an email communication from the Ashoka Study Abroad Office. 
  • All other students, from partner / non-partner international institutions, should provide a letter of approval / support from their home institution to spend a semester / academic year at Ashoka. Please write to studyabroad@ashoka.edu.in for any further clarifications/questions.

Application documents

Students can apply through the Ashoka online application portal by filling in personal information and submitting the following documents:

  • Updated CV/Resume
  • Academic transcript from you home institution

Official transcript should include the Name of your programme of study, course or major, list of all completed courses to date, Grade Point Average (GPA) or equivalent

  • Statement of purpose 

Describe your motivation to apply for an academic year/a semester at Ashoka University, (max. 500 words)

  • 1 Letter of Recommendation (LoR) from a faculty with whom student has taken a course
  • Passport copy
  • Passport size photo

Nomination deadlines

  • Fall (Monsoon) Semester or full academic year: 15 April
  • Spring Semester: 1 October
  • Summer Semester: 1 April

Application deadlines

  • Fall (Monsoon) Semester or full academic year: 15 May
  • Spring Semester: 1 November
  • Summer Semester: 15 May

Application review and decisions: On a rolling basis

Fee payment: Within 10 days of receiving invoice

Academics

Fall & Spring Semester course load: 

  • 4 courses (4 credits each) equivalent to 30 ECTS. 
  • Each 4-credit course entails 40 contact hours.
  • 1 optional (2 credits) co-curricular course in performing arts/visual arts/languages.

Summer Semester course load:

  • 1 or 2 courses (4 credits each). Each course is equivalent to 7.5 ECTS. 
  • Each 4-credit course entails 40 contact hours.

Summer Courses

The Office of Summer Programmes at Ashoka University offers an intensive six-week study programme, during the summer for undergraduate students.  2024 Summer Programme will be in-person. A range of four-credit courses is offered across disciplines. Students can take up to 2 courses during summer semester.

Fees: USD 3500 for up to two in-person courses (includes tuition fees, on-campus accommodation and meal plan)

Summer Research

The Ashoka International Summer Research Programme (AISRP) offers internships for undergraduate and master’s students from international partner and non-partner universities to participate in cutting edge interdisciplinary research carried out by faculty and research centres at Ashoka.

Students will receive a certificate of completion. No academic credits will be awarded for the internships.

Duration: 8 – 10 weeks

Programme dates: Between June – August 2024

Application deadline for international students: 1st May 2024 (11:55 PM IST)

Project: Supervised Research (no formal AU academic credit awarded)

Fees : USD 2500 – USD 3000 for 8 to 10 weeks (includes tuition fees, on-campus accommodation and meal plan)

Accommodation & Campus Facilities

All international visiting students are guaranteed campus accommodation in fully-furnished residence halls with laundry service. Rooms are on double-occupancy basis. Single room accommodation is not available. Visiting international students are housed with Ashoka students to encourage intercultural exchange. Students receive a meal plan (buffet and combo meals) at the dining facilities of Ashoka.

A full residential campus with fully air-conditioned rooms, common student lounges, state of the art classrooms and sprawling lawns, the Ashoka University campus is designed for a vibrant student life. A 50,000 feet indoor sports complex with a swimming pool offers several opportunities in the summer. Students can choose from a range of sporting activities. 

Visiting students are welcome to use the campus facilities while studying at Ashoka including library, campus shuttle, sport facilities, health services and more. 

Note: Campus has several food outlets, stores for books and daily essentials, where students can purchase the same at their own cost.

  • The Office of International Programmes provides extensive support to applicants of the programme. The office supports visiting students for their academic planning, course selection, and advises them during their time at Ashoka.
