What gives a place its unique character, and how do we make history accessible? Having spent her life in Kolkata, Debarati always wanted to bring stories out of textbooks into daily conversations, where they truly belong. She recently completed her post-graduation in English and has conducted several walking tours in the city. It has transformed her perception of history and time. She is also a published poet, an aspiring photographer, and journalist. She believes it is high time that the hierarchy between the scholarly and the mundane is erased, as knowledge, much like power, stems from everywhere. Through the Young India Fellowship, she seeks to engage with this intersection of storytelling and history, to bring about effective change in how we perceive the impact of our shared pasts.
