Heer Nimavat

Heer Nimavat holds a degree in English Literature from Miranda House, University of Delhi. A published poet and writer, her short story will feature in Rupa Publications’ Tales of Tribal Land. As a Mitacs Globalink Research Intern at the University of Toronto, Heer translated medieval manuscripts from Khojki and Old Gujarati. She was selected for the 2024 SALT Translation Summer School (University of Chicago), where she worked on her first full-length translation of Mahotu, a Yuva Puraskar-winning Gujarati novel. A Sahitya Akademi grantee, Heer has researched Marasiyas, dirges performed by indigenous bard communities in Gujarat. She is drawn to YIF’s interdisciplinary learning and research infrastructure, particularly its translation centre. In her words, “Nothing is more humbling than an interdisciplinary curriculum.” At the YIF, she hopes to deepen her work in literary translation and carve a space in literary ethnography.
