This course is an introduction two computational pipelines that we use every day.
1. Imaging pipeline: what goes on when we take a photo on our digital (phone) cameras (or other sensors). (30% of course)
2. Graphics pipeline: what goes on when text, images, shapes are rendered on our displays. (70% of course)
Computational imaging systems have a wide range of applications in consumer electronics, scientific imaging, HCI, medical imaging, microscopy, and remote sensing. We discuss digital imaging pipeline and inverse problems in imaging such as demonising in this course.
Computer graphics is a core technology in digital photography, film, video games, digital art, cell phone and computer displays, and many specialized applications. We will introduce the technical concepts behind creating synthetic computer generated images —vector math, ray tracing, basics of texture mapping, graphics pipeline, splines etc.
