Miraculous World of Materials

Public Lecture

  • This event has passed.

Abstract: Materials have been the cornerstone of human civilization. From the stone tools of our ancestors to the silicon chips powering modern technology, materials have shaped our world. But what if we could harness materials with even more extraordinary properties?
In this talk, we shall explore the miraculous world of materials. Discover how scientists are creating materials with unexpected and remarkable properties, such as superconductors that conduct electricity without resistance, shape-memory alloys that can "remember" their original shape, and nanomaterials with incredible strength and flexibility. Learn about the exciting possibilities these materials hold for the future, from renewable energy to medicine. Join us on a journey of discovery and see how materials are changing the world around us.

About the Speaker: Prof. Dipankar Das Sarma or popularly known as D.D. Sarma is a Professor of Solid State and Structural Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He is known for his researches in the fields of Solid State Chemistry, Spectroscopy, Condensed Matter Physics, Materials Science, and Nanoscience. He is a former MLS Chair Professor of Physics and Chairman of the Centre for Advanced Materials and the GAST Professor of Uppsala University, Sweden. Prof. Sarma is recipient of TWAS Physics Prize and the UNESCO Biennial Javed Husain Prize. He was honored by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India, in 1994, with the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology. He is an elected Fellow of the American Physical Society, The Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, the National Academy of Sciences, India, and the Indian Academy of Sciences. He also holds a fellowship of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Materials (APAM)and is a J. C. Bose National Fellow and Homi Bhabha Fellow.

Looking forward to your active participation.
