About the Conference
The 4th Indian C. elegans Meeting will be held in 2027 at Ashoka University, in collaboration with Amity University and IISER Mohali.
The Indian C. elegans Meeting is the premier national conference for the Indian Caenorhabditis elegans research community. It brings together researchers, faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and students from across the country who use C. elegans to address fundamental questions in biology, spanning genetics, developmental biology, neurobiology, cell biology, ageing, disease biology, evolution, behaviour, and related disciplines.
The meeting provides a vibrant platform for participants to present their latest research, exchange ideas, foster collaborations, and strengthen the growing C. elegans community in India. Typically attracting around 180-200 participants, the conference features keynote lectures, invited talks, short talks selected from abstracts, and poster presentations. The format encourages interactions across career stages, from undergraduate and postgraduate students to PhD scholars, postdoctoral researchers, and established faculty members.
Dates: 20-23 January 2027
Venue: Reddy’s Auditorium, Ashoka University
History of the Indian C. elegans Meeting
The 1st Indian C. elegans Meeting was held from 30 January–2 February 2016 in Lonavala, Maharashtra, and was organised by Dr Sandhya Koushika (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai). The meeting established a national platform for researchers working with C. elegans and laid the foundation for a vibrant scientific community.
The 2nd Indian C. elegans Meeting took place from 23–26 February 2018 in New Delhi, and was jointly organised by Dr Arnab Mukhopadhyay (National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi) and Dr Kavitha Babu (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Mohali).
The 3rd Indian C. elegans Meeting was held from 27–30 September 2022 in Thiruvananthapuram, and was organised by Dr Anoop Kumar Thekkuveetil and Dr Anindya Ghosh-Roy.
In 2024, the Indian community hosted the Asia-Pacific C. elegans Meeting at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, organised by Dr Kavita Babu. As this major international meeting brought together researchers from across the Asia-Pacific region, the next edition of the Indian meeting was deferred.
The 4th Indian C. elegans Meeting will now be held in 2027 at Ashoka University, in collaboration with Amity University and IISER Mohali. Building on the success of previous editions, the meeting aims to strengthen scientific interactions, showcase cutting-edge research, and provide opportunities for networking, collaboration, and mentorship within the Indian C. elegans community.
