Ashoka Mathematics Challenge (AMC)

The Ashoka Mathematics Challenge (AMC) is a rigorous, quantitative thinking, logical reasoning, conceptual mathematics test for applicants who are sure that they want to pursue a major in Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics at Ashoka University.

The AMC is offered through two distinct pathways. In the special Science AMC round, applicants take the mandatory 30-minute On-the-Spot Essay (OSE) and the 90-minute AMC together on 23 August 2026. The AMC is also available in every regular admissions round, where applicants choose one of two options: OSE with the Ashoka Mathematics Challenge (AMC) or OSE with the Ashoka Aptitude Assessment (AAA). Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview round. Top AMC scorers, who receive an offer of admission to Ashoka University, will receive a confirmed seat in a major of their choice within the Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics departments and a scholarship of up to 100% on tuition.

What the AMC evaluates

AMC rewards understanding why an idea works and applying it somewhere new, rather than reciting a memorised method.

Choosing your route

AMC is offered as a special early test on 23 August 2026, and alongside the AAA in every regular admissions round thereafter. The 30-minute OSE is mandatory in both pathways: applicants pair it with either the 90-minute AMC or the Ashoka Aptitude Assessment (AAA). Applicants cannot take both the AMC and the AAA.

Which majors qualify?

  • Computer Science
  • Computer Science & Entrepreneurial Leadership
  • Mathematics
  • Philosophy & Computer Science
  • Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence
  • Computer Science, Mathematics and Economics
  • Mathematics & Computer Science
  • Physics

You already know you want Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics.

The 90-minute AMC, taken with the mandatory 30-minute OSE, gives decided science applicants a dedicated, conceptual test and a streamlined, merit-driven route into their major of choice. To sit for the special 23 August test, mark one of the eligible majors as your first-preference major on the registration form by 12 August 2026; this is what activates the AMC as your test option. If you apply later in the cycle instead, the AMC remains available in each regular admissions round.

Shortlisted applicants go through an academic and personal interview before a final admissions decision. Top scorers who receive an offer get a confirmed major and a merit scholarship of up to 100% on tuition; other AMC offer holders pursue their major through the same gateway-course route as AAA applicants.

Benefits of the special August AMC round

The special August AMC round has a separate benefits package for top scorers who receive an offer of admission, as they not only receive a confirmed major and a scholarship of up to 100% on tuition, but also an eight-week lecture series, where they get to learn and interact with subject and industry experts in these science disciplines.

01

Early Admissions Decision

The AMC takers will receive their admission decision before applications for the regular admission rounds open.

02

Confirmed choice of major

Top scorers who receive an offer of admission get a confirmed seat in Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics, the major of their choice, without additional barriers. Other AMC offer holders pursue their major through the same gateway-course route as AAA applicants.

03

Merit scholarships up to 100%

Top scorers can receive a scholarship of up to 100% on tuition and can also apply for further need-based support. AMC test takers also remain eligible for Ashoka’s other existing Special Merit Scholarships (JEE, IAT, CMI, INO Training Camp) if they meet any of the eligibility criteria.

04

An 8-week lecture series

Top scorers with a confirmed offer can join marquee online lectures with academic and industry experts, running from October to December.

Preferred City Options

Applicants can select a preferred test city from the options below.

Your route to Ashoka, step by step

The steps below cover the special early round built around the 23 August 2026 test. If you apply in a later admissions round instead, AMC remains available there alongside the AAA, following that round’s own regular timeline.

1

Take the 30-minute OSE and 90-minute AMC

Take the mandatory On-the-Spot Essay and the Ashoka Mathematics Challenge together—a total of 120 minutes—in person at a test centre in India on 23 August 2026.

2

Apply

A dedicated application window opens for AMC test takers, from 1 September to 15 September 2026, followed by evaluation and shortlisting.

3

Interview

Shortlisted applicants go through an academic and personal interview.

4

Decision

Offers of admission are released by 7 October 2026. Top scorers are confirmed into their major with a scholarship of up to 100% on tuition; other offer holders follow the gateway-course route.

A confirmed major and a scholarship of up to 100% on tuition apply to top scorers in the AMC. Other AMC offer holders, along with applicants who choose the AAA, pursue their major by meeting each department’s gateway-course requirement: a minimum grade of B− in both Discrete Mathematics and Introduction to Computer Science for Computer Science, or the introductory courses set by the Mathematics and Physics departments for those majors. Applicants who are not offered admission in the special August round will not be able to reapply within the same admissions cycle (2026-27 intake).
