Ashoka University extends its MOU with Yale University, USA

Yale and Ashoka University have both agreed to extend the MOU by an amendment to the original MOU, which was executed in April 2022 for five years until June 30, 2027.

Yale and Ashoka University signed a University wide MoU in 2015. The five-year MOU expired during the pandemic. Both universities agreed to extend the MOU by an amendment to the original MOU, which was executed in April 2022 for five years until June 30, 2027.

During this time senior leaders, faculty, students and staff, have engaged in many forums and programmes with each other. In 2015, an Ashoka Crossover Lecture by Professor Peter Salovey, President of Yale University on “Liberal Arts Education in Asia,” was hosted by Ashoka. Since then several other presentations have been hosted by the two universities. Ashoka Chancellor Rudrangshu Mukherjee presented at Yale University as well.

Since 2016, the South Asia Institute at Yale has invited and hosted Ashoka faculty to participate and contribute as mentors to the Modern South Asia Workshop. (MSAW). Ashoka Faculty traveled and were part of these workshops held at Yale University. In 2018 MSAW was held at Ashoka University, to celebrate its 10th Anniversary, as part of the AAS in Asia Conference.

Yale University played a pivotal role in the AAS-in-Asia Conference organized and hosted by Ashoka University in India in 2018. Prof. James C. Scott, Professor, Yale University was the keynote speaker at the conference. Yale University also sponsored a reception at the Conference. 

Student mobility for summer and semester study abroad at Yale by Ashoka students started in 2017. Vibhuti Gour, was the first student from India to be accepted to study for a semester at Yale in Spring 2017. Several students have gone to take summer courses as well. Yale student, Tahj Lakey, took summer courses at Ashoka University in 2019, 

For the Monsoon Semester (2022) two Ashoka students have been accepted to study at Yale for a semester. They are Sanyukta Singh, UG 23 pursuing her major in Psychology and Vernika Mrig, UG 23 doing her major in Economics.

Regular meetings between Yale and Ashoka Staff have been ongoing since 2015. More recently, in March 2022, Kasturi Gupta, Program Director of the South Asia Studies Council (SASC) at Yale visited Ashoka with the new Deputy Director of the MacMillan Center, Heidi McAnnally-Linz to introduce her to Ashoka faculty and staff. Several interactive meetings were held with Professors, Swargajyoti Gohain from Sociology, Sanjukta Dutta from History, Simi Ghosh and Madhavi Maganti from Psychology and Divya Vasudev from Environment Sciences. They also got a chance to meet Sanyukta and Vernika who gave them a campus tour. 

We look forward to engage deeply with Yale University in the next 5 years.
