The PhD Programme in Quantitative Biology at Ashoka University brings together biological sciences with quantitative and computational approaches to address complex questions in modern biology.
Designed as a focused, project-based and interdisciplinary doctoral programme, the programme brings together faculty expertise across Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Psychology, Environmental Science and related fields. It is intended for researchers who want to work at the intersection of disciplines and use quantitative, computational, theoretical or experimental approaches to investigate pressing biological questions.
The programme is rooted in Ashoka University’s interdisciplinary research environment and draws on the University’s existing PhD framework.
Collaboration with the University of Warwick
The programme has been developed to perform fundamental or applied research on collaborative projects between Ashoka University and the University of Warwick.
Students will be admitted to the Ashoka University PhD programme and will have the opportunity to work with Ashoka and Warwick faculty through co-supervision. The programme is designed to create opportunities for scholars to work across two research environments and engage through:

If you are interested in learning more about the programme, please complete the Expression of Interest form.
Expression of InterestNo. The programme is an Ashoka University PhD programme with collaborative research and co-supervision involving faculty from Ashoka University and University of Warwick.
The programme is designed around collaboration between Ashoka and Warwick faculty. Ashoka’s PhD guidelines permit co-supervision by faculty from outside Ashoka, subject to the University’s approval and appropriate institutional documentation. The final supervisor structure for each project will be specified with the project details.
No. The programme is explicitly interdisciplinary. Applicants with backgrounds in quantitative disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics or Engineering will be preferred where their interests align with quantitative biological research.
No. However, quantitative and computational skills may be relevant to particular projects. Thus, prior knowledge/ experience of programming might be an advantage.
