This course will focus on pricing: its theory, in different market structures like monopoly, oligopoly, and competitive markets, between different demand segments in the form of price discrimination, and on price collusion; a behavioral economics approach to pricing, discounts and promotions; the particulars of pricing in some specific industry; and will explore the application of price as a policy instrument: to correct market failures and to create markets where none exist to improve resource allocation, and to provide support or incentive for target products, suppliers or consumers.
