Ashoka University’s undergraduate course curriculum is taught across three semesters: Spring, Summer and Monsoon (Fall). Courses are broadly divided into three categories – Foundation Courses (core curriculum), Major & Minor Courses and Co-Curricular Courses.

Why do poverty and inequality persist in many parts of the world? What barriers and market failures do the poor face in their efforts to improve their lives? How effective are government policies and market-based solutions in addressing these challenges? And how can we evaluate these policies? This course is designed to equip you with a deeper understanding of the lives of the world’s poor. You will be introduced to the central issues and empirical tools in development economics, and will use both theoretical models and applied econometric methods to analyze a range of topics, including poverty measurement, education and health, credit markets, inequality, and institutions.
