CS-ECO-Maths Major
The interdisciplinary B.Sc. Hons. programme in Computer Science, Economics and Mathematics (CS–Econ–Math) brings together coursework across Computer Science, Economics and Mathematics.
The department recommends that students complete mathematics in Classes 11 and 12 to be eligible for any economics-related major or minor.
For students who have not studied mathematics in Classes 11 and 12 to be eligible for any economics-related major or minor, they need to:
a) Take MAT 1000: Calculus (a 1000-level course) offered by the Mathematics department in their first semester and
b) Secure at least an A- to be eligible
Note, there may be an entry test requirement for MAT 1000 which will be set by the Maths department. Please check the mathematics department website for more details.
Note: There is currently no three-year exit option for this interdisciplinary major.
Major Requirements
Students admitted to Ashoka in 2022 and thereafter fall within the NEP Programmes. Credit requirements for interdisciplinary majors are listed below.
Four-year CS–Econ–Math UG degree (B.Sc. Hons.) requires 20 major courses, each of 4 credits. The structure of the 20 courses is the following:
- 5 compulsory Computer Science courses: Introduction to Computer Science, Discrete Mathematics, Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA), Design & Analysis of Algorithms, and Introduction to Machine Learning.
- 5 compulsory Economics courses: Introduction to Economics, Microeconomics I, Macroeconomics I, Microeconomics II, and Econometrics.
- 5 compulsory Mathematics courses: Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Probability & Statistics*, Linear Algebra, and Real Analysis.
- Any 5 CS/Economics/Mathematics electives.
B.Sc. Hons. with Research: Students can pursue a B.Sc. Hons. with Research with an additional 12-credit Project/Thesis.
*Instead of Probability & Statistics, students can also opt for Statistics for Economics (an Econ dept course), but they will need to do an additional course from the Math department in lieu (Basic Algebra and Number Theory).

Note: While sequencing their courses, the students must take into account prerequisites for a given course. For example, Micro theory 1 requires Intro to Econ and MVC to be completed before. Similarly, students must check the prerequisites for each subject.
