This course will explore the role of financial institutions in the process of economic growth and development. The first half of the course will explore the trajectory of financial development across both
developed, and emerging economies through select case studies. The second half of the course will focus on various policies involving both formal and informal financial institutions in facilitating households and firms’ access to finance. The final part of the course will discuss the regulation of financial institutions and policy responses to financial crises.
Prerequisites: ECO 2101 (Microeconomic Theory I), ECO 2201 (Macroeconomic Theory II), ECO 2400 (Econometrics)
