In the past decade the study of planets has taken centre stage with the discovery of over 5000 extra-solar planets, which are being examined in detail. This course incorporates the lessons learnt from these studies regarding the formation and evolution of planets including the Earth. The physics of gas giants and rocky planets are introduced, along with their atmospheric properties. Possible conditions for the existence of life is discussed.
Desirable preparation: Physical science at the class XI-XII level, FCs on QRMT and PoS.
