Understanding Hindustani Music

Hindustani music, the art music system from northern India, has evolved over several centuries, incorporating diverse influences that have shaped its structural basis and have developed its peculiar aesthetic.  This course familiarises students with the practice and theory of Hindustani vocal and instrumental forms in the past and present.  Students will have hands-on experience in learning some of these forms for presentation as part of the course.
