Inclusion of disability within the campus.

Interactive session with RAs on Inclusion of disability within the campus.

  • This event has passed.

Office of Learning Support strives to make the spaces within campus accessible and raise awareness about disabilities. On January 18th, the Resident Assistant Coordinators invited the OLS  to host a session on the inclusion of disability within the campus. This interactive session took place to understand the experiences of Resident Assistants (RAs) working with students with disabilities in the academic year so far. Given that RAs play a crucial role in shaping campus life experiences and culture, the session aimed to equip RAs with the ability to build an inclusive and accessible community within the campus.

Based on their feedback and questions, the OLS team worked with the RAs to understand and develop ways to make events more accessible. As events are an integral part of the Ashokan community and the RA programme; It becomes important to make them accessible as it helps build an integrated and inclusive community. The OLS team helped the RAs understand how they can utilize the principles of Universal Design while planning their events through an activity. The RAs came up with creative ways in which they could incorporate it into their event planning. The intention was to convey the importance of approaching accessibility as a proactive and integral part of the planning process, rather than treating it as an afterthought.
