Talk on Privacy in the 21st Century: A Conceptual Introduction [CDAIS]

Privacy in the 21st Century: A Conceptual Introduction

  • This event has passed.

Today, our personal data has become an essential currency for participation in society. As a consequence, we have all been forced to form some basic instincts about what digital privacy is, where it is a relevant concern, and how much we value it. In this talk, drawing on the work of legal theorist Daniel Solove, we will see how these popular understandings of privacy often do a poor job at helping us recognize threats that arise from 21st century technological realities. We will then explore an alternate way of thinking about digital privacy and consider some implications for public affairs, particularly for developing contexts like India.

This talk is meant to be discipline and experience-level agnostic, so tenured Computer Science Professors, first year literary theory students and everyone in between are welcome.
