A bio-note is anything but a mere footnote. The little biographical paragraph that you send along with your submission does not just tell the reader who you are, but also ‘situates’ your piece in terms of its context, and justifies your authorship. There is a lot you want to share: where you were born, where you lived, what you studied, the speeches you have given and the poetry you have published. But how much should you say in a bio-note, and how much should you show? How do you tailor the content for different audience groups? How much humor is admissible in 100 words?
