- This event has passed.
Dear All,
The Department of Visual Arts invites you to the first talk in the colloquium series Monsoon '25.
Title: Visual dialogue on Conflict and Displacement
Speaker: Veer Munshi, visual artist/curator
Venue: VISUAL ARTS STUDIO (near sports block)
Abstract: Munshi’s works through his entire artistic journey of engaging his memories and his political voice in the current plight of Kashmir. The entire practice looks at the various ways in which he has tried to visually elaborate on his identity and the various genres of art making in his state. From building installations, to the skills of embroidery, the artist visualizes his own art language in a more nuanced manner where he locates his own paintings and motifs as a means to return to events that have been pertinent to him. he reminds his viewers to locate his journey among the others who were forced to flee their own safe spaces to find newer grounds of security in other states, this collection reaches beyond the surface and, finally portrays a deep sense of faith in rehabilitation and the newer spaces that harbor healing process.
From paintings, videos, photographs to large sculpted forms that go beyond visible details, the collection tends to offer peace and reconciliation as a means to return to the history of Kashmir.
