Ashoka University’s Safexpress Centre for Data, Learning and Decision Sciences (SCLDS) hosted ‘Future of Climate: AI, Science and Society’ on 18 September 2026 in New Delhi, bringing together leading voices from climate science, technology and industry to explore how AI and scientific innovation are reshaping climate risk and resilience.
The event featured a keynote address by Professor Tapio Schneider, Environmental Science and Engineering, California Institute of Technology, and Principal Scientist, Google Research. This was followed by a panel discussion featuring Anjali Bansal, Founder, Avaana Capital; Dr William Boos, Professor of Earth and Planetary Science, University of California; Dr M. Mohapatra, Director General, India Meteorological Department; and Professor Schneider. The discussion was moderated by Professor Gautam Menon, Physics and Biology, Ashoka University.
The event explored the role of climate intelligence, AI and scientific advancements in understanding climate risks and strengthening resilience.
About SCLDS
The Safexpress Centre for Data, Learning and Decision Sciences, or SCDLDS, was established to bring together advances in data science, artificial intelligence, mathematical modelling, and decision sciences to address important real-world problems.
The Centre, led by Sandeep Juneja, Professor of Computer Science and Founding Director, has been working over the past few years to strengthen India’s capacity for improved weather forecasting, particularly in predicting extreme weather events such as heavy rainfall, droughts, heat and cold waves and is engaging with IMD to bring in new machine learning tools and mathematical methodologies to such activities.
