Graduate Information Sessions 2022 launched

The focus of these sessions is to guide, advise and answer questions of Ashoka students planning to apply for higher studies  in India and abroad.

Each year in the monsoon semester, the Office of Global Education and Strategic Partnerships (GESP) organizes several information sessions, workshops and panel presentations on Graduate admissions, the application process, scholarships and more. The focus of these sessions is to guide, advise and answer questions of Ashoka students planning to apply for higher studies  in India and abroad. These sessions are organized to help students clarify specific doubts and also understand the needs and demands of the application process. he Graduate Information Sessions this year were kicked-off by Ashoka University Founder, Mr. Vineet Gupta on the opportunities and schemes to fund graduate studies. He gave students an overview of the higher education landscape and shared advice on all the things one should bear in mind before planning postgraduate studies.

Following from the first session, an alumni student panel was organized that consisted of recent graduates who have been admitted to prestigious universities abroad for their post-graduation. It consisted of Anushri Ganguly (ASP 21), Manas Srivastava (ASP 19), Paroma Roychowdhury and Sanjay Sudarsan (ASP 21) who shared some very useful advice on the application process to universities in the UK, US and Europe. Their advice covered a variety of subject areas ranging from Sciences (Mathematics), Humanities and Political Science and Economics respectively. They took up questions on the best way to conduct research on universities, write SOPs, approach faculty for LORs and overall profile building.

Paroma Roychowdhury advised students to begin the research early so that there is enough time to shortlist the department and universities, take the mandatory exams, like GRE and write SOPs and apply for scholarships while, Manas shared his interesting opinions about rejections and how he course corrected his applications to achieve his desired programme. Anushri discussed the process of writing the SOP and how best to approach faculty and what worked well for her in her application process. Sanjay Sudarsan talked about a plethora of topics including some of the X-Factors, Key takeaways and how to approach the tests. Similar to last year, the second year and the third year undergraduates have shown significant participation while YIF’s have also registered their interest for the sessions.
