Abhilasha Sawlani’s research spans the fields of Partition and Cultural Memory Studies, exploring the phenomena of memory and postmemory, and their influence on formerly syncretic identities. Her questions emerge from a personal investment in exploring the Sindhi identity and its changing configurations in the aftermath of Partition and the fissures it generated. Her recent work focuses on Sindhi narratives of Partition produced by the witness generation as well as their descendants. Besides Partition Studies, her areas of interest include Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Popular Cinema in India.
