Debadrita Saha

Ph.D. in English, Batch of 2023, Ashoka University

Research Area: Postcolonial Studies, Ecocriticism, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Indian Writing in English

Debadrita Saha completed her graduation and postgraduation in English Literature from Presidency University, Kolkata in 2020 and 2022, respectively. Her research interests include postcolonial studies, trauma studies, literatures in translation, nineteenth-century literature, Indian writing in English, ecofeminism, and cinema. Debadrita aims to explore the pedagogical possibilities of Indian women’s postcolonial ecofeminist narratives in healing ecological trauma. Her previous concerns on ecofeminism led her to explore select literatures from medieval Bengal through an ecofeminist lens at the Eco-Bio-Zoo Workshop organised by the University of York and to write on the discourse between ethical veganism and ecofeminism in collaboration with The European Association for the Study of Literature, Culture, and Environment (EASLCE). Her allied research interest in precolonial Bengali literature was reflected in the co-authored article, “The Naṣṭā Woman: Women’s Agency in 18th-Century Bengali Erotica – Naṣṭāmo kathā ebang strīloker barnanā (1785)” in Rejoinder-an online journal published by the Institute for Research on Women, Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences.
