Debdutta Sanyal’s research interests include reading texts in their historical context and complementing textual sources with material culture through historical archaeology. She is interested in making the discipline of History more easily accessible. Debdutta graduated in History from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi and obtained her MA and MPhil from Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Delhi. Her MPhil dissertation, completed under the supervision of Prof. Upinder Singh, was titled ‘Realms of Representation: Fashioning of a King in the Harshacharita and Xiyu Ji’. It dealt with the representation of kingship in literature, focusing on the figure of Harshavardhana of Kanauj. She also holds a diploma in Sanskrit language and certificates in Persian and German. Debdutta has presented her work in conferences at IIT, Guwahati, University of Kerala, Trivandrum, University of Delhi, Delhi and Presidency University, Kolkata. She was a Sahapedia-UNESCO Project Fellow, 2018 and authored a multimedia module titled, ‘Religious Landscape of Early Medieval Radh Bengal’, published on the online forum, Sahapedia. She has also served as an editor at Ratna Sagar Pvt. Ltd. publishing house. She has been a Teaching Fellow at Ashoka University in 2016 (Monsoon semester), 2017 and 2018.
