Krishna P Unny

YIF Class of 2021

B.A. History and Tourism
Stella Maris College

Krishna is a Bharatanatyam dancer and a Carnatic singer, with a deep passion for Indian history, particularly the history of performing arts, and culture. Coming from the small town/district called Palakkad from Kerala, she moved to Chennai after class X to pursue music and dance at the prestigious Kalakshetra Foundation after which she completed her undergraduate course in History and Tourism at Stella Maris College.

During her UG, she had the opportunity to hold leadership positions like the Secretary of the Classical Dance Club in the second year as well as the elected Cultural Secretary of the Students’ Union. Her hobbies when not juggling her academics and dance performances include curating a Madras history page on Instagram (@madrastically_yours), indulging in books, quizzing and trivia, and playing the veena.

As an aspiring dancer-historian and writer, she believes that a transdisciplinary approach like what the Young India Fellowship (YIF) provides, will help her get a holistic understanding of history and the arts and aid her in her intellectual and cultural pursuits. She also believes that YIF will help her challenge her own limits and open new vistas for her to explore.
