Manasa Sai T V N

Ph.D. in English, Batch of 2025, Ashoka University

Manasa’s intrigued by the themes of silence, cyclicality, passivity, and equivocality of affective expression in Palestinian fiction, especially in the novels of Adania Shibli. She has previously worked on the representation of migrant passivity in novels such as Teju Cole’s Open City and Chimamanda Adichie’s Americanah. For her creative writing dissertation during her Masters’ program at the University of East Anglia, she produced ekphrastic essays interlinking the experiences of reading Shibli’s Minor Detail (2020) and Isabella Hammad’s Enter Ghost (2023) with that of visiting museums and art galleries in India, including the Partition Museum in Amritsar, Punjab, touching on the affective dimension of reading Palestinian fiction. Her essays/ reviews have appeared in Strange Horizons and Atticus Review. Before venturing into research, she was a practising dispute resolution lawyer. When she’s not working on her research, she’s busy running book clubs and making time-lapse videos of places being places when no one’s visiting them.
