Maria Anne Fitzgerald

Senior Writing Fellow

Ph.D. Geography, University of Delhi

Maria Anne Fitzgerald is feminist geographer working at the intersection of social, cultural, gender and young people’s geographies. Her research interests include space-identity dialectics, auto-ethnography, visual methods, DEIJ advocacy research and feminist pedagogy. Her doctoral study documented the lived experiences of young people from cross-cultural families in India.

Maria has also worked on foregrounding the regionalisation and cultural politics of the Anglo-Indian Community in India. She is committed to understanding how community politics and everyday experiences produce narratives of inclusion/exclusion among marginalised groups in society.

Her writing is honed by experiences of difference and belonging while growing up in a cross-cultural family, across small-town Thiruvalla, post-colonial Calcutta and metropole Delhi. Some of these narratives are posted on her collaborative blog ‘makingspace’. She has published in Economic & Political Weekly and How to Foster Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice in Geography (Edward Elgar Publishing).
