While Mukul was writing his Master’s dissertation at the Department of International Relations, South Asian University, New Delhi, he realised that true knowledge cannot and should not be produced within the straightjacket of rigid disciplines. His research specifically looked at the internment of Indians of Chinese origin in the aftermath of the Sino-Indian War and he felt that the tools that traditional IR theory gave him were inadequate to capture their experience with any amount of sincerity. He then began to look for institutionalised interdisciplinary education and that led him to the gates of Ashoka University. He is particularly interested in research areas such as International Political Economy, International Development, Cognition and Politics and the intersection of Technology and Politics. He is also fascinated by works of science fiction, surreal art, absurdism and horror.
