Ph.D. Brown UniversityPoulomi studies how social identity – ethnicity, class, and particularly social status – shapes political mobilization and redistributive politics. She relies extensively on primary sources and combines a variety of methodological approaches, including statistical analysis and survey experiments, ethnography, interviews, and comparative historical analysis. She is currently working on her first book manuscript, titled “Politics of Dignity”.
Poulomi’s research has appeared in Comparative Political Studies and the Russell Sage Foundation Journal and has been covered by popular outlets like the Hindustan Times, The Wire, Hindu Business Line, and Ideas for India. Her projects have attracted support from several sources, including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, International Growth Center, American Institute of India Studies, Smith Richardson Foundation, and the Library of Congress. She received a PhD in Political Science from Brown University and also holds a Masters in international development from MIT. Before joining Ashoka, she held visiting/faculty positions at Harvard University and Queen’s University.
