Course: Anthropological Unsettlements

Ratna Menon has taught in the YIF’s Critical Writing programme since 2015. She has also served as Associate Director of Ashoka University’s Centre for Writing and Communication (2015–17).

Ratna’s disciplinary background is in Anthropology; she obtained her M.A. from The New School (2007) and her B.A. from Mount Holyoke College (1996). In between and after her degrees, she spent over 15 years as an editor working on issues of gender, health, development, and human rights before joining Ashoka University. Her research interests include border studies, medical anthropology, and the anthropology of violence. In her Critical Writing course, she combines the disciplinary insights of anthropology with an editor’s deep respect for how language works to demonstrate the inextricable link between critical thinking and good writing and to empower her students to become proficient in both.
