Rita Brara Mukhopadhyay

Professor Dr. Rita Brara (Ph.D University of Delhi) is the editor of the journal Contributions to Indian Sociology and a Research Fellow affiliated with the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi, India. In the summer of 2019, she was a Visiting fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law at Heidelberg. She was a Visiting Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin the autumn of 2016, at the Rachel Carson Center for Research in Environment and Society, Munich in 2015 and at Aarhus University, Denmark in 2014.

For the longest time she taught at the Department of Sociology, University of Delhi, India which is also her alma mater.  Her monograph titled ‘Shifting Landscapes: A Study of Village Commons in India’ was published by Oxford University Press in 2006. Her research interests and writings focus on environmental/agrarian law, climate change, kinship and popular  culture.
